Diaries of a grad – Part 1

My name is Alexandra and I am a new grad in Groupe Dynamite’s sixth Graduate Rotational Program cohort. I am one of the lucky thirteen chosen to be part of this one-of-a-kind experience for the next two months. I’m just excited; I promise I’m not bragging! Or maybe just a little bit… 😉

I thought it would be kind of cool for those who’d like to be a part of this program one day to see what it’s like on the inside. So I’ve decided to share my diary with you.

Spoiler alert: It lives up to the hype.

The first two weeks were packed with integration activities. And yes, that is way more exciting than it sounds! I have met with people from over ten departments, put myself in the shoes of a Sales Associate, a District Sales Supervisor, a Store Manager and a Head Merchandiser during three store visits, completed a day-long Excel training and practiced my soft skills. But I have to say that my proudest moment this week was making it to work on time almost every day despite a snow storm dumping roughly 30 centimetres of snow and ice pellets on Montreal.

It’s totally fine though, since impossible weather conditions are no match for our barista’s perfect mocha coffee. One sip will make you instantaneously forget that you have to brush the snow off your car all over again at the end of the day. Is that a foam tulip? Groupe Dynamite has me living so legit.

I also met with Andrew Lutfy, Groupe Dynamite’s President and CEO. The other grads and I had the opportunity to get to know him, ask him questions about his career and his vision for the company and, most importantly, request a selfie. Who said whipping out a selfie stick at the end of a business meeting doesn’t make a first good impression? I think he seems quite pleased.

WEEKS 1-2

Lowlight: Attempting to dry the bottom of my snow-soaked pants with the bathroom’s hand dryer.

Highlight: Connecting with the other grads. I went shopping with two of them last week (the foundation of any expensive wonderful friendship) and we spent a small fortune on the new spring collections from Dynamite and Garage.
